Virtue of Ramadan —
Allah says in the Quran:
"The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance for people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion." — Quran 2:185
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
"When Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained." — Sahih al-Bukhari 1899, Sahih Muslim 1079
"Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and hope for reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." — Sahih al-Bukhari 38, Sahih Muslim 760
Sehri — سحری
Sehri (Suhoor) is the pre-dawn meal eaten before the fast begins. It ends at Fajr time — when the fast starts, eating and drinking must stop.
Sehri ki Dua —
Transliteration: "Wa bi-sawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan."
Translation: "And I intend to fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan."
Virtue of Sehri
"Take Suhoor, for there is blessing in Suhoor." — Sahih al-Bukhari 1923, Sahih Muslim 1095
Iftar — افطار
Iftar is the meal eaten at Maghrib time (sunset) to break the fast. It is Sunnah to break the fast quickly at sunset and preferably with dates.
Iftar ki Dua —
Transliteration: "Allahumma inni laka sumtu, wa bika aamantu, wa 'alayka tawakkaltu, wa 'ala rizqika aftartu."
Translation: "O Allah! I fasted for You, I believe in You, I put my trust in You, and I break my fast with Your provision."
Another authentic dua at Iftar:
Transliteration: "Dhahabaz-zama'u wabtalatil-'urooqu, wa thabatal-ajru in sha Allah."
Translation: "Thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed, if Allah wills." — Sunan Abi Dawud 2357
Fasting Rules —
What Breaks the Fast —
- Eating or drinking intentionally
- Intentional vomiting
- Menstruation or post-natal bleeding
- Deliberate ejaculation
What Does NOT Break the Fast —
- Eating forgetfully — the fast remains valid
- Brushing teeth / miswak
- Tasting food without swallowing (out of necessity)
- Eye drops, kohl
- Bathing / pouring water over the head (to cool down)
- Wet dream
"Whoever forgets while fasting and eats or drinks, let him complete his fast, for it was Allah who fed him and gave him drink." — Sahih al-Bukhari 1933, Sahih Muslim 1155
Who Is Exempt from Fasting —
- The sick — if fasting harms health (make up later)
- Travellers — on a journey (make up later)
- Pregnant & breastfeeding women — if they fear for themselves or the child
- The elderly who cannot fast — feed a poor person per day (fidya)
- Menstruating women — make up the fasts later
"Whoever among you is ill or on a journey, then (fast) an equal number of other days." — Quran 2:184
Taraweeh —
Taraweeh is the special night prayer performed in Ramadan after Isha. It is a strongly recommended Sunnah (Sunnah Mu'akkadah) — the Prophet ﷺ prayed it and encouraged his companions to do so.
How Many Rakats? —
- 8 rakats — the number the Prophet ﷺ prayed (2+2, with Witr after) — Sahih al-Bukhari 1147
- 20 rakats — the practice established under Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) in congregation, followed by most mosques today
Both are valid. What matters most is praying with khushu (humility) and reflection, not racing through the rakats.
Virtue of Taraweeh
"Whoever stands (in prayer) in Ramadan out of faith and hope for reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." — Sahih al-Bukhari 37, Sahih Muslim 759
Laylatul Qadr —
Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Decree) is the holiest night of the year — better than a thousand months (83+ years of worship!). It falls in the last 10 nights of Ramadan, most likely on an odd night (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th).
"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months." — Quran 97:3
"Seek Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan." — Sahih al-Bukhari 2017
Dua for Laylatul Qadr —
Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet ﷺ what to say if she finds Laylatul Qadr. He replied:
Transliteration: "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni."
Translation: "O Allah! You are Most Forgiving, You love forgiveness, so forgive me." — Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3513
Zakat al-Fitr —
Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) is a compulsory charity given before the Eid prayer at the end of Ramadan. It purifies the fast from any shortcomings and feeds the poor on Eid day.
- Amount: One sa' (approx. 2.5–3 kg) of staple food (wheat, rice, dates) per person — or its cash value
- Who pays: Every Muslim (paid on behalf of children too)
- When: Before the Eid prayer — giving it after Eid counts only as ordinary charity
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ enjoined Zakat al-Fitr as a purification for the fasting person from idle talk and obscenity, and as food for the poor. Whoever gives it before the (Eid) prayer, it is accepted as Zakat; whoever gives it after the prayer, it is mere charity." — Sunan Abi Dawud 1609
Quran in Ramadan —
Ramadan is the month of the Quran — it was revealed in this month. The Prophet ﷺ would revise the entire Quran with Jibreel (AS) every Ramadan. — Sahih al-Bukhari 6

| Days 8–14 | ~1 Juz daily | Juz 8–14 |

| Days 22–29/30 | ~1 Juz daily | Juz 22–30 (Khatm!) |
Tips for a Productive Ramadan —
- Set intentions early: Write down 3 spiritual goals (e.g., complete Quran, never miss Taraweeh, give charity daily). 3
- Protect your fast: Guard the tongue from backbiting, the eyes from haram, the ears from idle talk.
- Increase dhikr: SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah — 100x daily.
- Give charity daily: Even a small amount — "The most beloved deeds are the most consistent, even if small." — Sahih al-Bukhari 6464
- Make dua at Iftar: The fasting person's dua at breaking time is never rejected. — Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2526
- Sleep wisely: Rest after Fajr and after Dhuhr to stay energized for worship at night.
- Feed a fasting person: "Whoever provides Iftar for a fasting person gets the same reward as him." — Sunan al-Tirmidhi 807
"The fasting person has two joys: joy when he breaks his fast, and joy when he meets his Lord." — Sahih al-Bukhari 1904, Sahih Muslim 1151
Common Mistakes to Avoid —
- Skipping Sehri — it has blessing; don't miss it.
- Delaying Iftar — break fast immediately at Maghrib.
- Wasting nights on entertainment instead of worship in the last 10 nights.
- Overeating at Iftar — eat moderately to stay active for Taraweeh.
- Arguing while fasting — if provoked, say "I am fasting." — Sahih al-Bukhari 1904
- Missing Zakat al-Fitr — pay it before Eid prayer!
Final Words —
Ramadan 2027 is a gift — 30 days of mercy, forgiveness and freedom from Hellfire. We don't know if we'll see another Ramadan, so let's make this one count: fast with faith, pray with heart, read the Quran, forgive others, and draw closer to Allah.
"O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwa (piety)." — Quran 2:183
