Durood Sharif

Durood Sharif Ke Fayde: Benefits of Sending Blessings on the Prophet ﷺ

Sending durood (blessings) upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is one of the most rewarding acts in Islam. Allah Himself sends blessings on the Prophet, and commands the believers to do the same.

Quran: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and greet him with peace." (Quran 33:56 — Surah Al-Ahzab)

Urdu: "بے شک اللہ اور اس کے فرشتے نبی پر درود بھیجتے ہیں۔ اے ایمان والو! تم بھی ان پر درود و سلام بھیجو۔"

Key Benefits of Durood Sharif

1. Ten Blessings for One

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever sends one blessing upon me, Allah will send ten blessings upon him." (Sahih Muslim 408)

2. Sins Forgiven, Rank Raised

"Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send ten blessings upon him, erase ten sins from him, and raise him ten degrees." (Sunan an-Nasa'i 1297)

3. Closest to the Prophet on Judgment Day

"The closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who sent the most blessings upon me." (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 484)

4. Dua Accepted

Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) said: "Dua is suspended between heaven and earth until you send blessings upon the Prophet." (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 486)

5. Intercession on Judgment Day

"Whoever sends blessings upon me, my intercession will be permitted for him." (Various narrations)

The Best Durood (Durood-e-Ibrahimi)

This is the durood recited in Salah — the most authentic:

English: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari 3370

Shortest Durood

صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ (Sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) — "May Allah send blessings and peace upon him"

Best Times to Recite Durood

  • Friday: "Send abundant blessings upon me on Friday." (Sunan Abi Dawud 1047)
  • After Adhan: Then ask for Al-Wasilah for the Prophet ﷺ (Sahih Muslim 384)
  • In dua: Begin and end your duas with durood
  • Morning & evening: 10 times each (Various narrations)
  • When the Prophet's name is mentioned

How Many Times?

There is no fixed number outside of specific contexts. The more, the better. Start with 100 daily and increase gradually.

Conclusion

Durood is a treasure — easy on the tongue, heavy on the scale. Make it a daily habit. "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet..." (Quran 33:56)
